Oman Air Launches Full Mobile Phone and Wi-Fi Connectivity Aboard New
Airbus A330s
Date: 19 Jan 2010

Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, becomes the first airline in the world to offer the full connectivity suite (Mobile OnAir and Internet OnAir) on its commercial widebody aircraft when it starts to unroll full mobile phone and wi-fi connectivity across its brand new Airbus A330 fleet by the middle of February. The move will give passengers in First, Business and Economy classes the opportunity to make and receive mobile phone calls, SMS, use email and the internet and keep up to date with social networking media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Launching the new service, Oman Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Hill, says:
“We are delighted to be leading the field by bringing the digital age to in-flight passenger communications. From mid-February we will be unrolling full connectivity across our Airbus A330 fleet, completing the task in the summer. This great new service will enrich the passenger experience and complement the stunning new interiors we are offering in all three classes of travel. “For many travellers, the ability to communicate via phone, SMS, email or internet is a vital part of everyday life and staying in contact with friends, family or colleagues will constitute huge benefits for Oman Air’s customers. People are increasingly expecting internet and mobile connectivity “anywhere, anytime” and what better place is there than on an Oman Air A330, when you have a few quiet hours to catch up on your email, browse the internet or return that quick phone call.”
Availability of the service will be controlled by the crew to ensure a minimum of disturbance to passengers during, for example, the quietest periods of overnight flights.

Oman Air Launches Luxurious New Three-class Service From London Heathrow

Oman Air’s brand new, much-anticipated First Class Mini Suite is launched this week, together with new Business and Economy class seats, menus and uniforms when the airline’s new three-class Airbus A330-300 is unveiled.
The three-class service will be introduced to a range of routes across Europe and Asia, including non-stop direct flights between Muscat and London Heathrow.
Featuring an 82-inch long, fully-flat bed within a pitch of 85.5 inches, a seat width of 25.5 inches, electrically-operated backrest, leg rest and seat depth controls, and an eight-point massage system, Oman Air’s First Class Mini Suite is set to offer unparalleled levels of comfort and space. And with just six seats in the First Class cabin, privacy should never be an issue. In addition, each First Class seat offers a 23-inch inflight entertainment (IFE) monitor, a wireless IFE handset, a backup IFE handset, two USB ports, an Ethernet socket (RJ45), an audio and video assumption (RCA) plug and a PC power outlet.
The 77.5-inch long, lie-flat Business Class seat with a pitch of 82 inches is 22 inches wide and offers electrically-controlled backrest, leg rest and seat depth. Each of the 20 Business Class seats, fitted in a four-abreast, 1:2:1 configuration, also features a 17-inch Gen. III IFE monitor, two USB ports, an Ethernet socket (RJ45), audio and video assumption (RCA) plug and PC power outlet. With a cocktail table, a one-piece meal table, a buddy seat and ample stowage, Oman Air’s Business Class seat has been hailed as being better than many other airlines’ first class offering.
With a spacious 34-inch pitch, Oman Air’s new Economy Class seat offers adjustable head and foot rests, a bi-fold, sliding food table and upholstery that has been constructed for enhanced comfort, all located within a onepiece composite seatback structure. With a 10.6-inch seatback-mounted IFE screen and handset, USB and RCA video multi-plug for every passenger, and an Ethernet socket (RJ45) and PC power port for every double seat, Oman Air’s Economy Class offers everything the modern traveler needs to stay connected, informed and entertained.
For all three classes of travel, IFE is provided via the Thales i5000 in-seat Audio Video on Demand (AVOD) system, with its broad range of media content, which is integrated with Rockwell Collins Tailwind Live Satellite TV, broadcasting across eight channels. The system also provides a platform for forthcoming full Wi-Fi and GSM connectivity.
