Air Mauritius is the national airline of Mauritius. It is based in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius and provides regional and international services. Air Mauritius’ main base is Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), Mauritius. Air Mauritius was incorporated in June 1967. Initially it was a handling agent. Air Mauritius started airline operations in August 1972 with a Piper-Navajo aircraft on a flight from Mauritius to Réunion. Air Mauritius started its international operations in 1977. In 1998, Air Mauritius was approved as a JAR (Joint Aviation Requirements) 145 Maintenance Organisation by the French Direction Generale de L'Aviation Civile (DGAC). This means that Air Mauritius can perform maintenance on aircraft and components belonging to the member states of the Joint Aviation Authorities and that the company can sell its services to other airlines in the region that require a JAR 145 release. Air Mauritius has a modern fleet. As on July 2006, Air Mauritius fleet consists of 5 Airbus A340-300, 2 Airbus A319-100, 2 Boeing 767 ER, 1 ATR72-500, 2 ATR 42-500, and 3 Bell Jet Rangers. First Class

Passengers travelling with Air Mauritius will also be able to enjoy the luxury of cocoon seats and flat beds. The cabin will contain only two rows of seats, allowing a great level of intimacy on the flights.

Business Class

Superbly comfortable seats, gourmet menus to choose from , and luxury accessories. You can let yourself be pampered hours on end. A new intermediate class called Club Mauritius will be launched by Air Mauritius too, offering passengers individual seatback monitors, plus dedicated crew and check-in facilities. The new class will give customers "unmatched value-for-money" on their airfares, said the company.

Economy Class
There is no boast, but it looks more like the business class on some of the competitor's planes: individual LCD screens, video programmes to choose from, electronic headphones, headrests, footrests, menus, drinks, free aperitifs and liqueurs.

The airline aims to provide passengers with a blend of traditional great customer service and constant improvements, as well as offering great value airfares. The Mauritian national carrier, Air Mauritius was founded in 1967 with around 850,000 passengers per year now taking advantage of its fantastic flights. Air Mauritius offers its flights through a fleet of 15 aircraft from its base in Port Louis, each carrying the Air Mauritius symbol of the mythological bird the Phaeton Rubicola, commonly known as the Paille-en-Queue.
The fleet includes five Airbus A340-300 aeroplanes, two Airbus A319-100s and two Boeing 767 ERs, as well as three Bell Range helicopters.
Air Mauritius says that its A340-300 craft are the most advanced long-range passenger aircraft available today and are equipped with the most up-to-date satellite communications systems including satellite navigation, fax facilities and telephone. The A319-100 aircraft also boast some impressive features, including greater seat pitch, enlarged stowage bins and a personal audio system for passengers to enjoy during the flight. Air Mauritius recently announced some exciting new facilities to be deployed on its flagship London to Mauritius A340-300 flights from the end of 2006.
Passengers in all classes will soon be able to enjoy an Audio and Video on Demand system during their flight. This will allow them to choose between around 100 digital-quality multi-language video options as well as a library of more than 100 CDs with playlist capabilities. With excellent standards of safety and maintenance, Air Mauritius was approved as a Joint Aviation Requirements organisation in 1998, meaning that it is qualified to perform maintenance on aircraft and components belonging to other airlines as well as its own. It is planning to launch a third-party maintenance facility at its hub airport Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.
