Top Travel Tips For Visiting Bali - Everything You Need To Know Before You Go

Read on to find out top travel tips shared by travel experts!

Bali is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and highly sought-after destinations in the world, and popular amongst backpackers, flashpackers and luxurious travellers alike! It’s a great place for holidays and easily accessible, with some incredible things to do and experience! But as with any foreign country, there are certain pieces of travel advice that you should know before you go and that can come really handy during the travels. From navigating the huge crowds to being monkey-savvy, here are a few tricks to getting the best out of your Bali visit.

Expect popular attractions to be crowded

Bali is hardly an untouched paradise and you may find a bit difficult to escape the throngs in southern part of Bali, Ubud or Kuta but determined solitude seekers will find be pleased to know that there are numerous beautiful secluded places beyond these tourist attractions. You can escape to the central mountains or north and west coasts in Bali.

Respect religious customs and don’t tread on offerings

Religion rules everyday life in Bali so don’t be surprised if the street is blocked off for a ceremony or your driver stops midway to take blessings from the small temple or a tree – all this is a part of Bali magic. Plan your visit accordingly if your travel dates fall on Nyepi, a popular festival in Bali when even the airports are shut down for the day. Also, please make sure you’re modestly dressed (covering shoulders and knees) when visiting temples or other religious places.

Watch out for monkeys and other stray animals

One of the most popular things to do in Ubud is to visit the Ubud Monkey Forest where you’ll come across these furry critters who may look cute but they are also mischievous and very dangerous. Make sure you do not leave your bag unattended because they are likely to take it. Also, avoid feeding the monkeys as they may carry disease and may become vicious if you don’t give them what they want. You’ll also find numerous stray dogs in Bali who are often in bad shape and carry diseases. If you want to help in some way, consider donating to a local charity like Bali Dog Refuge that works for the welfare of these stay dogs.

Remember off season often means rainy season

Bali’s rainy season falls between January to April and October to November so plan your trip accordingly. Low season discounts can be great but it may not be of any worth if you end up spending your holiday indoors and without any real explorations. However, most of the time, rains are often limited to the after downpour so you may visit certain places and are able to salvage your holiday.

Be mindful of nature

Bali is quite prone to natural disasters with highly active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes which can have impacts on flights, hotel stays or daily movement in the country. So, it is highly recommended to keep an eye on news and travel advisories before or during the trip so that you can make preparations if the need arises.
