Local Information & Travel Tips

Transportation

Seoul has an extensive and efficient public transportation system, including subways, buses, and taxis. Purchase a T-money card for convenient access to buses and the subway. Taxis are affordable, but ensure the driver uses a meter. Renting bicycles in designated areas is another fun and eco-friendly way to get around.

Visa Requirements

To travel to South Korea, British citizens need a valid passport. A visa is not required for tourist visits up to 90 days, and until December 31st 2024, UK visitors no longer require a K-ETA to enter South Korea without a visa. For up-to-date travel advice and health recommendations visit the government’s travel advice for South Korea.

Safety Tips

Seoul is generally very safe for travellers, even at night. However, always be mindful of your belongings, especially in busy areas like Myeongdong and Dongdaemun. Public transportation is safe, but avoid travelling during rush hour to avoid crowds.

Local Culture, Traditions, and Customs

Seoul’s rich culture includes respectful customs. It’s polite to bow when greeting people and to use both hands when giving or receiving something. In restaurants, wait for the eldest person to begin eating before you start.
