Brightsun’s Ultimate Guide to Egypt and Nile Cruise

Read on to find out everything you need to know about Egypt, the last surviving seventh wonder of the world and Nile Cruise!

A bucket list destination like no other, Egypt has been attracting travellers since romans came to marvel at the pyramids and river Nile over 2000 years ago. The sights that pulled them across the Mediterranean still feature high on every tourist’s itinerary. The temple complexes and pyramids of Giza will amaze any traveller and the Nile River cruise is still unmissable as they were ages ago. However impressive these extraordinary ancient sites might be, it’s worth spending some time roaming the Cairo’s bazaar diving into its museums, strolling through the narrow streets of the old city and watching the magical sunset over the Nile. It's things like these that will make your trip extra special.

Best time to Visit Egypt

October to April is ideal for visiting Egypt with mild weather when it’s comfortable enough to explore the various sites. November is a good all-round bet when temperatures are in the high 20Cs and lesser crowds. If possible, avoid the school holidays when the popular sites like pyramids and temples at Aswan and Luxor get swamped with tourists.

Top Experiences to Get up to in Egypt

Pyramids of Giza: One of the most recognizable landmarks in the world, this ancient wonder lies in the outskirts of Cairo and must absolutely feature in your must-do list. Having awed travellers through the ages, these tombs of pharaohs guarded by the Sphinx are the highlights of any Egypt itinerary and are often the first thing visitors head to after landing in Cairo.

Abu Simbel Temple: Even in a country swarmed with temples, Abu Simbel is something special. It is Ramses II's great temple famous for its megalithic proportions, adorned with gigantic sculptures outside and interior decorated with wall paintings. The temple is also known for the incredible move by UNESCO in the 1960s when it was moved from its original setting to save it from the rising waters of Aswan dam.

Luxor: Site to the ancient city of Thebes, Luxor is famed for the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, and the Memorial Temple of Hatshepsut. It is dubbed as the world’s largest open-air museum with most ancient monuments located in the west bank. Spend your time exploring the vibrant wall art of the tombs and being awed by the colossal columns in the temples.

Aswan: A tranquil town famed for its stunning sunsets and unmatched hospitality, Aswan is a great place to unwind and learn about Nubian culture. Take a ferry across the Elephantine Island and walk through the colorful streets of the Nubian villages, visit the Temple of Isis which was moved from its original location on Philae Island.

Aswan

Alexandria: Founded by Alexander the Great and home of Cleopatra, few cities can match the history of Alexandria. Although not many remnants of the past are left to see, the long seafront Corniche Road leading to its fort remains a favourite attraction for both locals and tourists. Other important attractions include Montaza Palace and Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Nile Cruise: This is the most relaxing way to see the temples dotted on the banks of river Nile on the route between Luxor and Aswan. Three- and four-nights’ itineraries are available aboard a 5-star cruise ship that has all the luxuries of a hotel.
