Enjoy Some Winter Sun in Bahrain with Brightsun’s Best Recommendations

One of our sales consultants recently visited Bahrain on a staff familiarization trip to explore the country’s top attractions and hotels. Here’s her best travel tips and recommendations that you’ll find helpful if you’re planning a trip to Bahrain.

Located in the Arabian Gulf, the Kingdom of Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands, and the only island nation in the Middle East. Linking the east and the west, Bahrain literally means “Two Seas” in Arabic and has been one of the region’s most significant commercial crossroads for over 4,000 years as a trading hub and route for pearl-diving.

Bahrain is the island destination that has it all; amazing food, thousands of years of history and culture, and year-round sunshine. Bahrain’s astounding tourist attractions extend to world class museums, three UNESCO world heritage sites, white sand beaches, untouched islands, exotic wildlife, and of course the annual Formula One Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Top Places to Visit in Bahrain

Al Fateh Mosque: Bahrain's famous Al Fateh Mosque was built as a grand statement in honour of the founder of modern Bahrain, Sheikh Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Khalifa, who was known as 'Al Fatih' (the conqueror). The mosque's foundation stone was laid by his direct descendant, the late emir Sheikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa in 1983, exactly 200 years after Al Fatih liberated the nation from the Persians.

Bab Al Bahrain: Located in the heart of Manama, Bab Al Bahrain is a traditional souq where you can pick up everything from electronic goods and bargain T-shirts to souvenirs, spices, and shisha pipes. But the real reason to visit here is to wander through the bustling streets of a market that still evokes the atmosphere of an ancient souq.

Jarada Island: Whisk away on a speedboat, 14 km from the mainland to the disappearing tidal island of Jarada to experience your own private island for the day. Enjoy a delicious picnic on the beach, followed by an afternoon of swimming, snorkelling and dolphin watching.

Bahrain Beaches: There are plenty of beautiful beaches in the country to go swimming or sunbathing, whether you’re looking for public beaches or something more private. Dry Dock Beach, Bahrain Bay Beach and Marrassi Al Bahrain Beach are some of the most popular beaches.

Top Must-do Activities in Bahrain

Go Karting: Bahrain is home to the world’s largest indoor multi-level e-karting track at the Bahrain Mall - wide enough for three karts to run parallel to each other. One can go as fast as 80km/h with the track expanding over three levels.

Pearl Diving: A part of Bahrain’s culture and heritage, pearl diving is a way to experience a piece of local culture. Pearl diving tours in Bahrain offer you a chance to go diving and look for pearls underwater. Ras Rayyah at the northern tip of Muharraq is the starting point for all diving activities in the country.

Boat Trips: Enjoy the true beauty of Arabian coastlines on a state-of-the-art boat charter. With sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and aquatic life to admire, this is a great way to explore Bahrain. Traditional dhow cruises are also popular in Bahrain.

Local Laws and Customs

Bahrain is a Muslim country and although there is no specific dress code, visitors must remember to dress modestly when in public. When visiting religious sites, ensure that your outfits cover chests, shoulders, and legs down to the knee. Alcohol is legal in Bahrain and is served in hotels, bars, and licensed restaurants, however, drunken behaviour in public is not tolerated and is against the law. Islamic values are greatly respected in Bahrain. Showing any disrespect towards religious beliefs or practices is considered deeply offensive and could likely result in a heavy fine and/or imprisonment.
