Why We Love Sydney

Here are 5 reasons why we absolutely love this awesome Aussie city and why you should add it to your bucket list if it isn’t on there already…

Sydney is Australia’s largest city and a cosmopolitan destination on the country’s East Coast with endless appeal. It’s just so diverse with a selection of iconic attractions and experiences, not to mention natural beauty. Everyone should visit Sydney and fall in love at least once in their lifetime, and we’ve mentioned why below…

It Has an Amazing Culinary Scene
Sydney is a classic foodie’s haven with a top-class culinary culture, offering some of the finest dining venues in Australia with delicacies from all over the world. Asian cuisines are popular here due to the city’s influx of immigrants; there are Asian restaurants galore serving high-quality, authentic and flavoursome dishes. The city also has award-winning fine dine restaurants, a great café culture with delicious brunch options and restaurants serving freshly caught seafood including the local favourite Sydney rock oyster which is pictured below. What makes Sydney stand out from other foodie cities is its al fresco and rooftop dining options; dining outdoors can be enjoyed all year round in sunny Sydney.

It’s a World-Class Cultural Centre
There are a great number of impressive museums and galleries in Sydney which highlight the city’s fascinating culture and showcase some incredible art and artefacts. The Art Gallery of NSW is one of the finest cultural centres in the city which is home to over 29,000 native and international artworks, including 19th century Australian artworks, European paintings and aboriginal masterpieces. It’s free to enter as are most of the gallery’s events and exhibitions. Another impressive institution is the Australian Museum which is Australia’s oldest museum, showcasing a collection of natural science and cultural objects (it’s currently closed to the public due to renovation and set to reopen in mid-2020).

It’s Filled with Stunning Architecture & Sightseeing Landmarks
Sydney is best known for its iconic landmarks which symbolise the city’s architectural splendour and development. The Sydney Opera House is one of the world’s most recognisable buildings with outstanding modern architecture. Then there’s the intricate Sydney Harbour Bridge - the world’s largest steel arch bridge that you can admire by driving over, walking across, sailing under or even climbing up as part of the thrilling Bridge Climb experience. Don’t miss the Romanesque Queen Victoria Building, which was built in 1898 to honour the long reigning monarch of Queen Victoria. It’s now a shopping centre so you can shop in style amongst grandeur interiors. Finally there’s the city’s tallest building Sydney Tower which dominates Sydney’s skyline at 309m with a panoramic observation deck.

There are Some Amazing Leisure Opportunities
It’s not just the sightseeing that will impress you in Sydney. There are so many excellent destinations and attractions to explore, some of which are completely free to enjoy. Darling Harbour is the city’s leisure hub, pictured below which makes for a fun-filled day out. Its waterside location is appealing with street entertainment, a beautiful Chinese garden and a plethora of dining and shopping options. Hyde Park is another scenic spot in the heart of the city with picnic areas, waterways, sculptures and a tree-lined pathway. You can also encounter Aussie wildlife in Sydney; Taronga Zoo is the place to be - it’s home to over 4000 animals and over 350 species, many of which are endangered.

The Beaches are Blissful
Some of the world’s most beautiful beaches are located in Sydney which offer a respite from the city and time to chill out under the pleasant Australian sun. The bustling Bondi Beach is the city’s most famous beach with surfing schools, great swimming and sunbathing spots, boutiques and souvenir shops, a picturesque coastal path, beachfront bars and restaurants and the colourful Bondi Beach Graffiti Wall. Manly Beach is one of Sydney’s stunning north beaches, a short ferry journey away from the city’s Circular Quay with amazing harbour vistas and a long stretch of golden sands.

A common reason why people hesitate on travelling to Sydney is because they think it’s out of their price range. The largest expense of a trip to Australia is of course the flights, but if you book well in advance it’s easy enough to secure an early bird deal. You could also choose to visit Sydney in spring between Sept-Nov or autumn between March-May rather than in the city’s peak summer season as the fares will be lower and the weather is still pleasant. We are partnered with a number of international airlines including Qantas, Royal Brunei, Emirates and Cathay Pacific who offer great deals on flights to Australia
