So the results are in from the Skytrax awards and the World’s Best Airlines are official for yet another year. Read on to find out about the winners which may influence or inspire your future travel decisions.
The Skytrax World Airline Awards has come around again and the winning results are in… For those who haven’t heard of this award ceremony, the Skytrax World Airline Awards started in 1999 when the first global satisfaction survey was released. Since then it has become an annual event, where millions of travellers from over 100 nations around the world have their say in the largest airline passenger satisfaction survey in the world. These awards are basically the airline industries’ version of the Oscars, so it’s a pretty big deal.
World’s Best Airline - Singapore Airlines
This year’s awards were announced in London on 17th July and as mentioned in our previous blog, we toured with Singapore Airlines the same day that they were awarded with the World’s Best Airline. The airline last held the 1st place title in 2008. We definitely understand why reviewers are so impressed with this airline. From airport services and lounges to on-board cabins and cuisines, SIA is truly world-class, and the airline’s home base happens to be the best airport in the world. We are very honoured to partner with them and receive excellent fares for our customers.
World’s Best Economy Class - Thai Airways
Thai Airways was awarded with Best Economy Class, and it’s no wonder why. Their plush, spacious Economy class cabin includes wide seats with some of the most generous legroom offered amongst all airlines, 30kg baggage allowance, snacks and hot meals, a wide range of beverages, a large personal screen with over 1,000 hours of entertainment, personal pillows and blankets on international flights, plus THAI Sky Connect in-flight Wi-Fi which can be purchased.
World’s Best Premium Economy - Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand was ranked 1st in the world for its immense Premium Economy cabin which offers a phenomenal premium travel experience. Premium Economy customers travelling with Air New Zealand can enjoy 2 x 23kg of checked baggage, luxury soft leather seats with enhanced personal space, generous arm, leg and foot rests, a complimentary meal from a dedicated Premium Economy menu and over 1,700 hours of in-flight entertainment.
World’s Best Business Class - Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways now holds the title of the Best Business Class cabin in the world, and what a thoroughly deserved award. The airline’s revolutionary Qsuite offers fully lie-flat beds, an incredible entertainment system with up to 4,000 entertainment options, a luxury amenity kit, generous storage space, dine-on-demand menus and a turn down service on long-haul flights with bedding and sleepwear. World’s Best First Class - Singapore Airlines
It really doesn’t get more luxurious than Singapore Airlines First Class, especially the new private First suites which we raved about in our last blog. The suites have their own sliding doors and window blinds, as well as a separate standalone bed, over 1,000 entertainment options on a 23-inch personal LCD monitor, noise-cancelling headphones and a restaurant setting on board with a large dining table and full table service with premium meals and wines. Again, the whole double bed situation is just proper flight goals.
The Skytrax awards not only rate the best airlines and best cabins... These surveys take everything into consideration, and there are awards for Best Cabin Crew, which was won by Garuda Indonesia, Most Improved Airline which was awarded to China Southern Airlines, Best In-flight Entertainment which Emirates proudly won, Best Airline Lounge Spa Facility which was awarded to Thai Airways and many more. It’s nice for airlines to be recognized for achievements and it’s also nice for us to see which airlines are pulling out the stops!
Who will be next year’s winners? Will Singapore Airlines continue as the World’s Best Airline?
